A few more Ottawa XC meet logistics...

Don't forget that the Ottawa XC course is in the middle of a field...without an address (making it difficult for Google maps).  Here are the driving directions to the meet tomorrow:

Ottawa Directions:
Heading south on I-35 you will take the Eisenhower exit and turn left or South on Eisenhower.  Go South past Old 50 and take the dirt road straight ahead.  It's about a half mile on your left.  It is a field that is just a cross country course.

Snacks for Ottawa meet:  Johnstons
Drinks for Ottawa meet: Hartmans

If you will be taking your child home after the meet don't forget to sign them out on the clipboard by the tent. You can sign them out early if you'd like.

Practice on Monday, September 26th will be at Coach Larry Ward's (head XC coach at GEHS) house.

The directions to the GEHS Cross Country course are as follows:  Go north on Gardner Road toward the Gardner Golf Course and Gardner Lake.  Continue around the lake until you get to the top of the hill and you see a street sign that is marked Gardner Road Turn north and continue one mile until you get to 143rd Street Take a left (west) and go about a quarter of a mile until you see a pole that is painted black and white on the south (left) side of the road, that pole is the finish line for our cross country races.  The mailbox has an address of 29855 w 143rd on it.

WSJ covers a mile in the Big Apple...

It was great to see running get a little press this morning in the Wall Street Journal.  The article titled "Four Minutes Down Fifth" by Joshua Robinson covered a famous one mile race in New York.  The Fifth Avenue Mile in New York City is a world class road running spectacle.  Athletes cover real estate from 80th Street to 60th Street, hills included.  In the past ten years only two male runners have run the course north of four minutes.  The article goes on to illuminate why the mile holds such mystique in the English speaking world.
